California inspector partner program

You run the election. We run everything around it.

A platform built for California association election work — print and mail, electronic and hybrid ballots, quorum tracking across both — plus referrals from boards who come to us looking for an inspector.

We do not have inspectors in California yet. This is a network being built, not one being joined, and the first inspectors in a region get the referrals from that region.

Your independence stays yours

Every line here is about an election you inspect.

  • You contract directly with the association. We are not a party to that engagement.
  • We never appear on the association’s invoice for it.
  • We don’t pay you, and we take no share of your fee.
  • Ballots return to your address, in your custody — never to ours.

What we provide

Referrals

Boards contact us looking for an inspector. We send them to you.

Print and mail

We print and mail the packet First-Class — ballot, your letter, your instructions — with a return envelope addressed to you enclosed. The member adds the return stamp.

Returns to your address

Every return envelope carries your address. Ballots go into your custody directly — on an election you inspect we never receive, hold, or open one.

Electronic and hybrid ballots

For associations that have adopted an electronic voting rule, with paper for anyone who opts out, and one combined view of both.

Live quorum tracking

Paper returns and electronic returns counted together, updating as they arrive.

Being built, and not ready yet

Three things a California packet wants that we do not do today, in the order we are building them: the inner secrecy envelope inside the addressed outer one; prepaid return postage on an envelope that still comes to you rather than to us; and the mailing affidavit and undeliverable report handed back as part of the election record. Ask where each one is when we talk — the answer will be a date or an honest “not scheduled”.

What we don’t do on your elections

Each line is about an election you inspect. What vote.direct does on its own elections is directly below, not somewhere else on the site.

  • On an election you inspect, we don’t inspect it — you do.
  • We don’t certify the count. The platform tallies what comes in; verifying it and signing the result is yours.
  • We don’t take custody of your ballots. They go to your address, not ours.
  • We don’t contract with your clients on the elections you inspect.

Where vote.direct runs elections itself

Boards can also hire vote.direct to run an election end to end — we build the ballot, mail and send it, answer the voters, close it and tally it — and in Colorado, Nevada, Florida, Texas, Arizona and Maryland vote.direct can be appointed inspector on one of those. Never in California, where we do not qualify, which is why a California board that comes to us looking for an inspector is a referral to you rather than work we take. On an election you inspect, none of that applies: the four lines above hold, and no ballot of yours comes to us.

Who this is for

  • Practicing or newly qualified California inspectors of elections.
  • Active notaries, CBA licensees, and county registrar volunteer poll workers.
  • Able to attend counting meetings in person.
  • Running your own practice.

We are starting in Greater Los Angeles and Orange County, and are talking to inspectors in San Diego, Inland Empire, Bay Area, Sacramento, Central Valley and Central Coast.

Talk to us

Terms are set individually. The first conversation is about whether this fits your practice — there is nothing to sign, and no account to create.

Or call or text (512) 222-8191. A person answers.

Boards and managers looking for an inspector should start with our guide to choosing one, or with managed elections if they would rather hand the whole election to somebody else.
