Make a free poll in two minutes
and share it with anyone

Write your questions, publish, send the link. Unlimited responses, no card, no response cap, and results you can watch land in real time.

Then, when an answer has to hold up, switch on email verification: we send each person their own ballot and confirm the address before their answer counts.

Free, and not a trial

No response limit, no expiry, no card. Everything below is what you get for nothing.

Every question type you need

Multiple choice, checkboxes, yes/no, rating scales, ranking, and short or long text answers. Mix as many as you like in one poll.

Live results

Watch responses land in real time with a clean breakdown by option, and export the whole thing to CSV whenever you want it.

Anonymous by default

Answers are not tied to anyone unless you ask for a name or email, and even then you can keep the two unlinked so nobody can be matched to their answer.

Answers in one tap

People answer from a phone, tablet or laptop with nothing to install and no account to create. The fewer steps between the link and the answer, the more answers you get.

Share it anywhere

One link that works in an email, a group chat, a newsletter, or on a noticeboard. Set a close date or leave it open as long as you like.

Looks like yours

Pick a theme, set an accent color, and attach a PDF when people need to read something before they answer.

What no free poll can do

Ours included. An open link is fast and useful right up to the moment the result has to convince someone who did not like it.

Anyone can answer as many times as they want

An open poll identifies people by browser cookie or by nothing at all. One person with a private window can swing the whole thing. Fine for picking a lunch spot, not for a board seat.

No proof the result is real

When a result is close or contested, "trust me, I counted" is not enough. An open poll gives you a number with no record of who answered, when, or how. There is nothing to fall back on.

No way to keep it to your group

Public links get shared, brigaded and bot-voted. Without a list of who may answer you cannot keep the decision to your members, your team, or your community.

Optional add-on

Send the poll and verify emails before voting

The same poll you just built, sent rather than posted. Instead of one link that anyone can open, each person gets their own ballot and confirms their address before their answer counts.

You keep

  • Anyone with the link can answer
  • Unlimited responses, no card
  • Anonymous by default
  • Multiple choice, checkboxes, yes/no, rating, ranking, open text
  • Live results and CSV export

Verification adds

  • We email each person their own ballot
  • Each address is confirmed before the answer counts
  • One answer per person, and you see who has not replied
  • Timestamped record of who took part
$4.99for up to 50 people

Charged once, not per vote. No subscription.

You turn this on inside the builder, whenever you want it. Nothing about making a free poll changes.

Where a free poll stops being enough

Our free poll and a typical free poll are the same kind of thing. The last column is the line you cross by turning verification on.

Create a poll in minutes

Creating a poll should be fast, and with vote.direct it is. Write your question, add as many options as you need, and choose how people answer, whether that is a single choice, checkboxes, a ranking, a rating scale, or a simple yes or no. Then share the link and the responses start coming in, with results updating live and everything exportable to CSV.

That is the free poll, and it is free in the ordinary sense of the word: no response cap, no expiry, no card. All you need is an account, which is also where your results live so you can come back to them.

Why verified voting matters

A free online poll is only as good as the responses behind it. An open link is trivial to game: open a private window, answer again, repeat. For an office debate that is harmless. For a board seat, a budget, a bylaw amendment, or any result someone might dispute, it is a real weakness, and no free tool solves it, because solving it means proving who each person is.

That is what the verification add-on does. Rather than posting one link, you give us the list of people who may take part and we email each of them their own ballot. They confirm their address before their answer counts, so one person gets one answer, bots are blocked, and you can see who has not replied yet and remind them. Every answer lands in a timestamped record, so a close result holds up when somebody asks how you know.

One tool for both

Most groups need both over the course of a year: a handful of quick polls, and one or two decisions that have to be done properly. Running those in two different places means two accounts, two exports and two sets of results. On vote.direct the free poll and the verified vote are the same builder, so when a casual poll needs to become an official one you add the list of voters and send it. That is why HOAs, nonprofits, unions, co-ops and clubs use vote.direct for everything from a Tuesday poll to an annual board election, where ranked ballots, weighted votes and per-unit voting are available too.

Free poll maker FAQs

Common questions about creating polls and verified online voting

It is the same poll, sent a different way. By default you publish one link, anyone who has it can answer, and it is free. Turn on email verification and we send each person on your list their own ballot instead, confirm their address before their answer counts, and record who took part. Use the open link to read the room. Turn on verification when the result decides something and somebody might challenge it.

Yes, and it is not a trial. Free polls have no charge and no response limit, with multiple choice, checkboxes, yes/no, rating, ranking and open text questions, live results, and CSV export. You do need a free account to build one, and there is no card. The only thing that costs money is the email verification add-on, which is $4.99 for up to 50 people, charged once for the poll rather than per response.

On a free poll, yes. It is an open link with no verification, so the same person can answer again from another browser and there is no way to prove they did not. That is true of every free poll tool, ours included, and it is the reason the verification add-on exists. With verification on, each person is confirmed by email before their answer counts, so one person gets one answer and bots are blocked.

Write your questions, pick how people answer, and publish. That takes about two minutes and gives you a link to share, free. If you would rather send it to specific people, choose to verify emails in the same builder: you add the list, we email each person their own ballot, and the price for your headcount is shown before anything is charged.

Yes, either way. Free polls are anonymous by default and you can optionally ask for a name or email. With verification on, Anonymous mode keeps each voter's identity out of the results, the per-ballot view and every export, so you still get a verified count and proof that only eligible people voted; organizers never see the link, which vote.direct keeps only in restricted storage for vote changes and recounts. Choose Sealed ballots and no link to the voter is stored at all.

That is what turning on email verification does. You add the people by hand, from your contacts, or by CSV upload, and only those addresses can take part. An open link cannot be limited: anyone who has it can answer, which is the trade you make for it being open and free.

No. vote.direct runs in any web browser, so people answer from a phone, tablet or laptop with nothing to install. You build and manage everything from the same place, and you can embed a poll directly on your own website.

Free polls support multiple choice, checkboxes, yes/no, rating scales, ranking and open text. Verified votes add cumulative and weighted voting, per-unit ballots for HOAs, write-in candidates and an abstain option. Ranked questions collect each voter's full order of preference and are counted by instant-runoff, eliminating the lowest-placed candidate each round and transferring their ballots until one passes a majority; every round is published with the result.
